Physiotherapy – how can it help me?

The aim of Physiotherapy is to restore movement and function to as near normal, relieve pain and help patients to achieve optimal physical function.  Our aim is to identify the cause of your pain and restriction and help you recover quickly and reduce re-injury risk while keeping you as active as we are safely able to do. 

We do this by:

  • Assessing your joints/bones, muscles and ligaments
  • Assessing your movement including movement techniques involved in your sports and hobbies
  • Assessing strength, movement control and stability
  • Understanding daily habits that may be contributing to your symptoms
  • Recommending any further assessments such as:  ergonomic assessment of your workstation; comprehensive running gait analysis
  • Offering a comprehensive range of treatments dependent on our findings including:  massage, acupuncture, dynamic muscle techniques, myofascial release, acupuncture, rehabilitation exercises for restoration of function and sport
  • If required, we are happy to work with other professionals such as your personal trainer, to help you achieve the best outcomes
  • If we feel further imaging or intervention is required, we will advise and help you to source the relevant professional

What to expect from my first appointment:

The Initial consultation will last for up to 45 minutes.  We will ask about your current problem/injury and will take a detailed history including your medical history, day to day life and sports and activities you participate in.  

We will then examine the problem area and surrounding structures.  We will explain and discuss our findings with you and formulate an appropriate treatment plan which is likely to involve manual treatment and exercise.

What should I bring with me?

  • Any relevant medical letters, x-rays or scan reports
  • If the problem is sports related, please bring relevant equipment such as running trainers, tennis racket
  • Appropriate and comfortable clothing e.g. shorts for a knee injury, loose clothing for low back problems, vest top for upper back or shoulder problems.
